Under the legislation, the Environment Protection (Water Quality) Policy you may be fined for dumping or deliberately placing garden waste into the gutter. The gutter is connected to the stormwater system which does not treat the water before it is flushed into our natural waterways. Lawn cuttings and leaves breakdown in water and reduce oxygen levels of the waterways and create toxic gases both of which threaten the lives of fish and other aquatic organisms and should never be deliberately place in the gutter. Sweep the waste up and place it in your green bin.
